LifeSpa

Hello:

As some of you may know, I am opening a new place in a few months. I am very excited to tell you about it. This process has definitely reinforced my belief that you should go for your dreams even if it's a bit rocky on the way. I had a vision to open a Wellness Center that was a bit of a new concept. I call it a LifeSpa: to have a place people can go that helps them step into their power. This includes, relaxation sessions, coaching, regression, wellness hypnosis, as well as financial planning and other services.

However, my dream has certainly taken some work. We had to sell our place in order to get the wellness center and move into a temporary place during the transition. At times, I was worried, I'll be honest. I wondered- have I made a mistake? Originally, other buyers beat us to the bid on the property we wanted, and I thought we'd have to look for something else. Nothing out there fit the requirements, we looked high and low. Then, after alot of meditating on my part and many others (thanks to you all), a miracle happened. The property came back on the market after 2 months! Even my realtor said it was amazing. She has been a wonderful help through this process. Thank you Lisa! We bid on it and our bid was accepted. It is a fixer-so now I'm learning all about contractors and remodeling. It is going to be a beautiful, relaxing oasis. Now, I'm in the next phase of the process, interviewing financial planners in my network to be part of the LifeSpa. I want you, my clients, to have only the best. If you know interested people, send them my way. In a nutshell, the LifeSpa will be a relaxing spa with a twist, a financial planner/consultant will be part of the services offered, to pair relaxation sessions, and a beautiful relaxing environment, with budgeting and those money things we all have to do but may feel reticent about. The Center is a new concept to integrate advanced tools to help people achieve their goals. As you know, I want you to achieve financial success as part of your life vision. I help you with the positive money thoughts and behaviors, and the financial planner helps you with the numbers. By the way, if you need a great realtor, call Lisa Ashkins 619-325-4192.

Go for your dreams!

Secrets of Self-Hypnosis

I hope this post finds you well and that you're having a wonderful Fall. I had my first live TV appearance yesterday, discussing self-hypnosis and how it can help you stay healthy and happy. I've included an article for you on 5 Tips on Self-Hypnosis for Health and Wellness and the TV clip.

Channel 6 Interview: The Secrets of Self-Hypnosis

5 Tips on Self-Hypnosis for Health and Wellness:Self-hypnosis is an ability we all have to some extent. It simply involves reaching a relaxed, focused state of mind, where your mind more easily accepts suggestions and imagery of healthier behaviors and attitudes.

Find a preferred method for reaching a state of relaxation. For some, it helps to use a visual cue, such as focusing on the flame of a candle. For others, it may involve counting backwards from 100, or listening to calming music, or doing some form of meditation.

It often helps to record a pre-designed relaxation script or have a hypnotherapist design a personalized one for you. For an example script, see my website at: http://www.drcoxconsulting.com/free-guided-meditation.html.

When in this relaxed state, feel yourself reaching your goal: whether it involves being fit and trim, more confident, or happier. Whatever your goal, imagine having it now. Use all your senses in the session: visual, auditory and kinesthetic.

It’s best to do your self-hypnosis session when you are in a very good mood. For example, schedule your session after you’ve watched a funny movie. By doing this, you help your subconscious mind to associate ‘feeling good’ with the new habit you are instilling.

If you'd like personalized help in achieving your goals through hypnosis, contact me. I can design specialized programs for individuals or groups.

What Inspires You?

Madrigal

What Inspires You?

One of my coaching mentors sent me the following article on 'The Watermelon Credo'. This was developed by Famous Amos, the business owner/cookie maker and motivational speaker. I completely resonated with his philosophy on life. This is what motivates me in my work with people and thought I'd forward it to you to inspire you.

"W - Whatever you believe creates your reality. Believe that life is a
positive experience and it will be.

A - Attitude is the magic word. Your greatest asset is your attitude. Be
positive regardless.

T - Together everyone achieves more. There are no limits to what we can
accomplish together.
I am more than I am but less than we are.

E - Enthusiasm is the wellspring of life. There is no limit to what can be
accomplished with enough enthusiasm.

R - Respect yourself, as well as others. When you begin to respect
yourself, your whole world changes.

M - Make commitments, not excuses. There is overwhelming power in the words
"Yes I will!"

E - Everyday can be a fun day. Fun is the lubricant that keeps life moving
forward. Laugh a lot.

L - Love is the answer. Whatever the question, Love is the answer. It's
the greatest force in the Universe.

O - One day at a time. How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.
All of life happens in increments of one.

N - Never give up or become a victim. Your are guaranteed to lose if you
give up. Winston Churchill was right, "Never, never, never give up." It
works if you work it."
For more information on Wally Amos, see: Watermelon Magic: Seeds of
Wisdom, Slices of Life (1996). Source: Costco Connection, July 2009.

How do your attitudes and thoughts bring you to a place of enthusiasm and joy? To know how to do this is powerful.

I love my work to help clients clear out beliefs that don't serve them and bring in useful beliefs that help them get to what they want in life.

Some of the beliefs that clients have developed in our work together, include the following:

-I am calm.
-I can access inner peace.
-I accept who I am.
-I like who I am.
-I enjoy my life.
-Life treats me well.
-Life is fun.
-Life is enjoyable.
-Life is exciting.
-Life is rewarding.
-Life is pleasant.
-I attract supportive, interesting friends.

We'll discuss more about developing positive beliefs in future blogs too. Building beliefs that help you is life-changing.

Learn more at an upcoming workshop, it's wonderful. My artist friend Ellen will be leading a segment on collage-making and unleashing your inner artist:

At this Guided Imagery and Collage-making Extravaganza you will be able to access creativity while at the same time building community, refreshing your spirit, and connection in the lovely setting of Madrigal. See more at:

Our Most Prized Possessions

Food for thought from the Dalai Lama -

"The paradox of our age; we have bigger houses but smaller families,
More conveniences but less time,
We have more degrees but less sense...

More experts but more problems,
More medications but less health,
We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet our new neighbor,
We built computers to house more information, but have less communication...

These are times of fast foods, but slow digestion
Tall man but short character,
Steep profit but shallow relationships,
It's a time where there is much in the window, but nothing in the room."

Community is vital to our health and well-being as this quote alludes to. Healthy relationships are our most prized possessions. Where do you get your community? Do one fun thing with a group (or your neighbors) and let me know how it goes. I love hearing fun stories about building community.

A (Late) Valentine's Day Gift

Love is a gift. What is love? It can be many things. In other times and other languages, they had a variety of names for different types of love feelings we have -

  • filial love, which conveys brotherly, friendship love;
  • agape, which is love that transcends ego and embraces the world
  • and, of course the really fun one we associate with Valentine's Day, eros, which is erotic love - this type of love is the wonderful surging of life force within us that is physical, creative, and yes, even spiritual.
Samuel Taylor Coleridge wrote the following on love - "All thoughts, all passions, all delights, whatever stirs this mortal frame, all are but ministers of love, and feed his sacred frame."

Even if you do not have a partner, how do you access the power of eros, your creative life force to fuel your soul? What delights in your daily living do you allow yourself to have? This week, give yourself permission to enjoy something pleasurable that fuels your passion, whether is be watching the sunset, eating a luscious chocolate, kissing a lover, or petting your cat - let yourself revel in it. Enjoy yourself and let that get you connected with all the love and joy available in your life.

Another fun activity is the following: Make yourself a sack lunch this week and place a love note in your lunch bad. You write yourself the love not. Phrase it exactly how your ideal lover would phrase it. Use your imagination. If you have a partner, you can write one for them as well if you'd like.

One of the Tantric texts advises the following - "Raise your enjoyment to its highest power and then use it as spiritual rocket fuel." A quote from Tantric alchemy states furthermore, "...in the heart of the jewel, love and passion can transform one into pure awareness." Close your eyes and visualize love, what does it look like to you? - you can see or feel is as a color, word, or person, however you'd like... breathe it in.

Love is truly a gift to you. Cherish it as a vehicle for your creative expression in the world.

The Pond of Life

I was chatting with a friend of mine, Chriss Lemmon PhD, about change. Changing old tendencies, coping with random upsetting changes in life, stuff like that. He had a great insight that random events in life, even seemingly unpleasant ones, can shock us into a new way of being. Random events can make us more aware of a personality pattern we'd like to change. Sometimes you notice an old, unhelpful habit pattern in your body that feels like it's 'stuck'. You mistakenly think "that's me, that's a fixed part of who I am." In integral psychology and the human potential movement, habit patterns and feelings are just energy or consciousness that you can let pass through your body. You can allow one to leave and allow another, more helpful, one to come in. Think of yourself as a frog on a lily pad in the pond of life. You can move from one lily pad to another. Which lily pad are you sitting on, afraid to jump to the next one? Maybe you feel a bit of an upset vibe in the pit of your stomach when you go to a party or have a disagreement. Imagine you can let that pattern pass through you, it is just temporary and you can try another one on. Notice what other feelings are available to you. Jump to the next lily pad for fun and see how that feels to move.

Leaving things undone

I love to collect helpful quotes. This one is courtesy of my friend Julie, on allowing yourself to let some things go:

"Besides the noble art of getting things done, there is the noble art of leaving things undone. The wisdom of life consists in the elimination of nonessentials."

Lin Yu Tang

What is one thing you'll allow yourself to let go this week? I'd love comments on how that process went for you.

Queen/King for the day

I was recently talking with a friend of mine, who has a financial planning business, about ways we help others feel valued and special. One great tip she had was called "Queen/King for the Day". Some schools do this activity too, where each child gets one day out of the academic year to be King or Queen. This can involve any activity that makes them feel special, i.e. getting to wear a crown or bringing them water in a special glass when they ask for it. For my friend's team members, they each get one day per year to be 'Queen/King for the day'. She takes them out to lunch at a place of their choosing, they get a special plaque on their desk and various other things on their special day. You can do this activity as a unique way to make employees or loved ones feel special and valued. I'd love to hear how it goes.
